NY: Scribner's Sons Book. Fair. Hardcover. 1909, 12mo, 255pp, cloth and boards. The title is written in ink on the front cover, the spine label, much of which is missing, is discolored, extremities worn, else G. This volume was previously owned by Louisville poet, Madison Cawein, with his signature on the first endpaper, and his signature and the date (1909) on the rear pastedown. The author, (1869-1968), was a native of Grayson County, Kentucky. She taught in various institutions, including Radcliffe. She used the pseudonym Fielding Burke for several of her novels. SEMIRAMIS AND OTHER PLAYS, her first book of dramas, included the title play based on the life of the famous Persian queen; CARLOTTA, a drama of Mexico in the days of Maximilian; and THE POET, a dramatization of the life of Edgar Allan Poe..
