Backs of end-papers embrowned with uniform offsetting onto facing page, and narrow strip at extreme large fore-edge of title-page embrowned where it projects beyond the half-title; otherwise a fine copy. Despite the title, the bulk of the poems are either here first collected from periodicals or here first printed. The editor, who was cousin to Collins’ widow, Frances Collins, had spent much of his leisure time in the ten years since Collins’ death setting various of his poems to music, in the course of which, he writes: “I discovered that many of the best poems were scattered about in magazines and newspapers, and therefore likely to be lost; so I have made it a labour of love, from time to time, to collect all these.” Printed on fine hand-made paper watermarked Spalding / Maker / 1885.
