Spine is faded but readable. Two corners lightly bumped and very slightly worn. Faultless interior. No marks or stamps. Black and white portrait frontispiece. In the introduction the author describes this selection as if it were an exhibition of selected paintings for Americans and designed to show the writer in differing moods and phases. There are portraits, landscapes, still lives of fruits and flowers, and flights of fancy which might be termed abstractions. It is an exhibition of prose as no poetry is included and omit's the writer's architectural and theatrical pieces. Contents: Dumb Tones and Shuddering Semitones of Death, Ames Damnees, London Charivari, Feria of Seville, Djemaa El Fna, Nuns of the Fondouk, The Golden Reign of Saturn, Orpheus and His Lyre, A Picture of Roumania, Drams and Cycles of the Island of The Areoi Society, Mexico Festival at Nola, Battle in the Steppe, and Finale in Form of a Bacchanale. Plus a Fourteen Page Introduction. Sir Sacheverell was known primarily for his art criticism and for his poetry. He was also the author of biographies of Mozart and Liszt. The Sitwell family was one of the most celebrated literary families of the 20th cent. Its members included Dame Edith Sitwell, 1887-1964, English poet and critic, Sir Osbert Sitwell, 1892-1969, English author, and Sir Sacheverell Sitwell , 1897-1988, English art critic.
