Salvatierra (1648-1717) founded the missions at Loreto in Baja California, establishing the Spanish presence on the California peninsula. He eventually founded five missions and was appointed Provincial of the entire Jesuit order in New Spain. Volume 25 in the Baja California Travels Series, edited by Edwin Carpenter and Glen Dawson. Octavo: 279 p. with a frontispiece portrait and 6 textual illustrations. Original blue cloth binding, with gilt titles. Issued without a dust jacket. A very good copy.
