About This Item

London: John Lane, and New York: The Merriam, 1885. First Edition. First Edition. Wells H. G. SELECT CONVERSATIONS WITH AN UNCLE (now extinct) and Two Other Reminiscences. London: John Lane, and New York: The Merriam., 1885. Small 8vo. Gilt lettered light green cloth covered boards. Second edition. Well's first fictional book. Part III of the Mayfair set. 117 pages, this variant without ads. Originally published in The Pall Mall Gazette in 1893-94.

"To my dearest and best friend, R.A.C.," which is a jumbled anagram, dedicated to either R.A. Gregory, Wells's friend who later became the editor of NATURE between 1919 and 1939, or for Wells's wife, Amy Catherine Robbins.

Found inside this edition is a 6 page advertising pamphlet promoting ERNEST THOMPSON SETON's illustrated books who was also a contributor of NATURE magazine.

A fine example & very uncommon, published the day before The Time Machine.
