A rare and beautiful copy of Orthodox Evangelion with luxury purple velvet binding with brass clasps and corner and center ornaments. Woodcut printed text and hand-colored illustrations. The book contains multiple hand inscriptions that are only partially legible.The pencil inscription on the front flyleaf contains references to Sarajevo, Bosnia, and Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, as well as the years: 1911 and 1914. It is possible that the text in some way refers to the Bosnian crisis which served as a prelude to WWI. But, since we have not been able to translate the entire text, we cannot be certain of the context. Fine complete set of Konan Tanigami's guide to western garden plants, Seiyo Soka Zufu (or Seiyo Kusabana Zufu).
Published in Kyoto, Taisho Era, Year 6 (1917).
Five volumes (two Spring, two Summer, and one Autumn/Winter) with 125 double-page woodblock botanicals in orihon (folding concertina-style) albums.
Among the flowers portrayed are roses, orchids, poppies, tulips, iris, lobelia, anemones, cyclamen, dahlias, chrysanthemums, ixia, fuchsia, begonias, hyacinths, snapdragons, lotus and other popular cultivars from European gardens.
Each album has a table of contents listing the flower names in English and Japanese.
The condition is very good, with good strong impressions in vibrant colours. A few plates with faint browning, but generally clean and bright.

The dust jacket is missing a large portion from spine and back panel. The front panel is heavily creased. A clear, removable, protective cover has a computer generated title adhered to it.
