About This Item

Faber and Faber, 1977. Hardcover. Good/Good. 254 pages, with index. Essays on 20th century interwar English literature - not a comprehensive account, but selective: on T.S. Eliot, D.H. Lawrence, Aldous Huxley, W.H. Auden, some others. 8vo, black cloth, gilt lettering on spine, scant shelf wear, faint foxing to top edge, end papers slightly age-toned. Unclipped dust jacket has wear along top edge, pale foxing to flaps and inside along the top. Author's inscription to former owner Prof. Warner Berthoff on front free end paper is barely visible (erased?) and ffep is wavy in that place; WB's underscoring and/or marginalia in pencil on approximately 20 pages.

Some books contain marginalia by Warner Berthoff, the late Prof. Ann E. Berthoff (U. Mass-Boston, English composition and rhetoric), or others, which we aim to describe accurately. Our inventory features English and American fiction and poetry, 20th-century literary criticism, world literature, history, and philosophy. Other categories are history and politics of Australia, Asia, South Africa and the Middle East; intelligence agencies and gnostic beliefs; Russian literature and criticism; and Russian and Soviet history.
