Book #16 in the YA mystery series featuring Judy Bolton. Orig. published in 1943, this is a slightly later printing (c. 1950s) in the format with the bright red cloth-covered boards with black lettering & house design in lower-outer corner of front cover & "haunted house" endpapers. In 207 pages with list of other JB titles (thru #26) in front matter, plain frontispiece by Pelagie Doane. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, binding strong & square, but front hinge is cracked. Pages moderately tanned, heavier around edges, commensurate with age & paper quality, unmarked save for blank label pasted inside front cover. Corners crisp. The unclipped DJ is the original "white spine" variety, listing to JB#24 on front flap, Connie Blair #8 on rear flap, Beverly Gray #20 on back cover. Condition is VG+: clean & bright with light edgewear, heavier to flaps & both ends of spine, in the form of small chips & tiny rubbed holes; nicely protected in new mylar cover Free!
