Illustrator: Donald Maxwell. contents list & index of first lines of verses at front of book; illustrated by 24 tipped in engraved colour plates from the topographical paintings of artist Donald Maxwell showing Sussex landscapes & seascapes; Maxwell trained in London at the Clapham School of Art, the Slade School of Fine Art, and the Royal College of Art. Among others he wrote & illustrated several books on the sights of Southern England & had a further connection with the poems in this volume as his mother was related to Rudyard Kipling. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. 95 pages. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Endpapers browned, text block clean. Dust Jacket worn at edges, small chips and tears, and is foxed here and there; now in archive acetate film protection. Dust Jacket un-clipped. Gilt titles spine & front. This is NOT a perfect copy: there are marks & blemishes, mostly in the margins of the early pages, but also slightly affecting three of the twenty-four illustrations.
