About This Item

London: Published by the author, 1938. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition. Blue cloth, gilt spine. Offsetting on flyleaves, small stain on front board, spine toned with scuff marks, very good. An occult novel, with clear practical rituals, about a lonely estate agent who meets a spiritual adept and is drawn into an ancient cult. Fortune states in the introduction, "If one wishes to write a book that is not cut according to any of the standard patterns, it appears to be necessary to be one's own publisher; therefore this book has not got the imprint of any publishing house to lend it dignity, but must stand upon its own feet as a literary Melchizedek." Uncommon.
