It covers the conditions in Ulster which prompted the immigration of the Scotch-Irish to the New World about 1718, and their various settlements. The bulk of the volume concerns their settlements in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, but there are also chapters dealing with settlements in Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Hundreds of immigrants are mentioned in the text, and there are lists of settlers.
