About This Item
London: Taylor & Francis , 1952. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 10.5" by 7". Not stated. A very smart copy of this work on the scientific achievements of French philosopher, Rene Descartes. Written by J.F. Scott and including a foreword by H.W. Turnbull. A fascinating work on the life and scientific achievements of French philosopher Rene Descartes. Rene Descartes (1596-1650) was an influential seventeenth-century philosopher, mathematician, and scientist who was a key figure in developing the concepts of philosophy and algebraic geometry that we still utilise today. This work focuses on his mathematical and scientific achievements in the fields of algebra, geometry, calculus, and analysis. Written by James F. Scott, an American physicist and former research director of the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. Including a foreword by English mathematician, Herbert Turnbull. Including a frontispiece portrait of Rene Descartes. In the publisher's original black cloth binding. Externally, lovely, with just minor shelf wear. Internally, frontispiece is detaching at the head, but still remains intact. Otherwise, volume is firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
