About This Item
Philadelphia: The Penn Publishing, 1909. Hardcover. Illustrations by Ralph L. Boyer. Small 8vo. Olive green cloth with ivory lettering and black, brown and ivory pictorial stamping. 331pp. Tissue-guarded frontispiece, 6 called-for full-page plates, decorative endpapers. Very good. Mild edgewear and rubbing, with ivory lettering heavily flaked as usual; inner hinges delicate but expertly, archivally strengthened, thus strong. A tight and internally quite nice first edition of the second title in the 4-volume baseball-theme "School Team Series" published between 1908 and 1911. Follow the adventures of Bob Farrar and his chums at Standham Academy. Very uncommon. Earl was actually a pseudonym of Beth Bradford Gilchrist (1879-1957).
