James Warren DeMint (born September 2, 1951) is an American lobbyist, businessman, author, and retired politician who served as a United States Senator from South Carolina and as president of the Heritage Foundation. The Washington Post and The Christian Post have described DeMint as a "staunch conservative", based on his actions during his time in the House. Wall Street Journal editor Steve Moore called DeMint the "taxpayers' greatest ally." After being re-elected in 2010, DeMint became the highest-ranking elected official associated with the Tea Party.
