About This Item
Synopsis
David Rhames Storey is an English playwright, screenwriter, and novelist. His novel, Saville, won the Man Booker prize in 1976. The story is set in the fictional Yorkshire mining village of Saxon during World War II and during the difficult post war era following. The novel is based around a young boy named Colin. He wins a scholarship to attend a grammar school, and in so doing wins a chance at escaping the poverty of his upbringing. At school, Colin is subjected to snobbism, emotional abuse and loneliness as he is caught between the two worlds in which he resides. The book is a compelling, memorable story that the reader will find credible and worthy.
