London; (1954): Rider & Company. First Edition. Octavo. 232 pages. illustrated with 4 half-tone and 2-line illustrations. One of the most carefully described works on the Black Mass. While it has a secret history even in the late Middle Ages, it began to be well-known in the 19th century. The Black Mass became popularized in French literature, in books such as Satanism and Witchcraft, by Jules Michelet, and Là-bas, by Joris-Karl Huysmans. This work was among the most important in the 20th Century on the subject. Bound in light blue cloth, spine lettering black, one corner bumped, booksellers ticket, near fine in very good clipped pictorial dust jacket, shipping to spine ends and corners.
