A beautiful Hatchards bound edition of two of Thomas Carlyle's most popular works, a striking copy bound in half crushed morocco. Bound by Hatchards.'Sartor Resartus' is a satirical commentary on a German philosopher, Diogenes Teufelsdrockh. In part this novel is a parody of Hegel and of general German Idealism. Originally serialized in 'Fraser's Magazine' from November 1833 to August 1834.'On Heroes' is a collection of six lectures about prominent historical and mythological figures, including Dante, Odin, Shakespeare, Napoleon, and Rousseau.By Thomas Carlyle, a cultural critic known for his enormous influence on the intellects of the Victorian era.Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper, 'Rosamond Fay, July 1914, London'. In a half crushed morocco binding with cloth to the boards, bound by Hatchards. Externally, smart. Very light rubbing to the spine, extremities, and joints. Small patch of wear to the cloth to the head of the front board. Spots to the fore edge. A couple of faint marks to the rear board. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with a few scattered spots to the first and last few pages. Near Fine
