About This Item

Signed. Sarah Cockrell came to Texas in 1844. She was widowed at age 29 when her husband was killed in a gunbattle. Legend says when she walked out of the funeral, she took her 4 small children by the hand and took over Dallas. She built the first iron bridge over the Trinity River, the first hotel, the first high-rise office building, the first flour mill and became the first woman to testify before the State Legislature. She was also the area's first millionaire. The author, Vivian Castleberry, was a well-known and prolific historian and writer in Dallas. The book is in near fine condition with only a slight bump on the bottom right front. The previous owner's name is written on the inside cover. The Jacket has some edge wear at the top and bottom of the spine. The inscription says "From this Dallas builder to another - you! Vivian Anderson Castleberry". Protected in mylar.

About mark mcdonald

Book collector for over 30 years. I'm retired and ready to sell. I buy almost exclusively from estate sales and since I've lived in Dallas my whole life, I know the people and where to go. I am a low volume collector and seller and deal in higher quality books. I have a lot of signed and inscribed books. These signatures have not been officially authenticated, but I am confident in their authenticity so I will guarantee them in perpetuity if it can be reasonably demonstrated that the signature is incorrect. .
