About This Item

Ithaca, New York, U.S.A.: Northeastern Univ Pr, 1991. First. Hardcover. As New/As New. AS NEW IN DUST JACKET. First printing. Cloth, 367 pps. with bibliography, index. The first book-length appraisal of two-time Pulitzer Prize winning historian Samuel Eliot Morison. The biographer focuses on Morison's craft, the development of his modernizing style of historical writing, and his relationships with such eminent contemporaries as Charles Beard, Frederick Jackson Turner, Commager, Santayana, Jams T Adams, Van Wyck Brooks and others. Morison particularly admired 19th century historian Francis Parking and strove to emulate his narrative style without letting the technique obscure scholarship.
