About This Item
London; Collins, [1938]., 1938. Hard Cover. FIRST EDITION. Square octavo, pp. [7], 1-60, [1]. Illustrations in colour throughout, with many full-page. Publishers' cream cloth with brown titles to upper board in unclipped pictorial dust-jacket. Cover cloth slightly soiled to edge. Scattered light foxing, mainly to endpapers; tidy contemporary ownership inscription in ink to ffep. Jacket surface soiled with slight wear at spine tips and corners. Small closed tear to front panel and "Pat" inscribed in pencil above "Susan" in the cover art. A very good copy in like jacket. A charming book, written and illustrated by 12 year-old Katharine Harrison-Wallace, and printed as a facsimile of her hand-written manuscript, with foreword by her godfather the Duke of Atholl. The three stories comprise: The Adventures of Sambo and Susan (a tale of two horses), Jim the Huntsman (a tale of a fox family evading the hunt) and The Story of a Disobedient Salmon. Scarce, especially in the rare jacket.
