About This Item

Woodbury, NJ, 1932; 8vo; 102 pages; illustrated; printed gray wraps. A history of the participation of Salem County in the War Of Independence, detailed from primary sources in the form of military correspondence, diaries, enlistment rolls, etc., reprinted verbatim. Describes Salem and Gloucester counties’ contributions to the supplying of Washington’s soldiers at Valley Forge, the action at Quinton’s Bridge, Hancock’s Bridge Massacre, and the writings of Col. R.G. Johnson. Authored by historian Frank H. Stewart, President of Gloucester County Historical Society, and collected here in 1932 from his weekly series appearing in the Salem Standard and Jerseyman from February 25 to July 14 that same year. Illustrated with photos of numerous historic structures, plus two small in-text battle maps. Very Good. Clean and bright, no chips, stains, or tears. Small name stamp in top right blank margin of the front wrap. A single small bracket in the margin of three various pages, a thin underscore of one line on page 32, and two lines on page 35. A fascinating historical record, and a potent reminder of the courage and sacrifices of our forefathers.
