About This Item
London: JM Dent & Co , 1907. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Inscribed by Author(s). Publisher's original boards clean. Short splits at both edges of the spine foot. Gilt titling and motif to spine with the motif also on the front board. The ffep is browned and is inscribed "With the author's compliments, November 30, 1907" but not signed. There is also a rubber stamp "St. Mary's Abbey, Mill Hill"; a fairly lengthy gift inscription dd 1991; and a comment in pen "Property of Marian House, Boksburg". "St. Mary's Abbey" is blindstamped to both the ffep and the half-title. There is some browning to the title page and to the frontis. which is tissue protected. There is foxing to the last few leaves and the bfep is browned. Gilt to the trimmed top edge of the textblock but o/w rough-cut. [xix] + 440pp. (incl. index] unmarked and very largely undiscoloured. The binding is sound. All eight full page illus. are present as called for and six have tissue guards. Very scarce in 1st ed.
