London: David Nutt, 1894. Small Octavo. (1) pp ad, half-title, 134 pp. (1) pp. ad. Major was one of the foremost contributors on Norse folklore, Folklore Magazine (published also by David Nutt). Beginning in the 1880's Norse scholars began to translate items on Norse folklore (often referred to as historical fiction). The memories had been retold for a millennium but began to be written down seriously in the early 19th century. Bound in blue cloth decorated and lettered in gilt, spine lettering gilt, previous owner's name dated 1904 in pencil, light toning to page edges. A near fine copy.
