London, I. White / Thomas Davidson, 1805 (+ 1813 Supplement.). 3 volumes. Hardbacks, Tall 8vo. 13 x 10 inches. (Supplement Volume 11 x 8.5 inches.) Brown full calf bindings with decorative blind embossed and gilt panelled boards, re-backed with well matching brown leather spines with raised and gilt banding, gilt lettering and embossed decorations. Marbled endpapers and page edges. In very good conditions. All volumes have professionally repaired spines, with later leather to spines. Edges of boards darkened and rubbed, bumps and chips to corners of boards. Some light rubbing marks to boards. While repaired; cloth reinforcements have later been added to volumes 3 & Supplement. Rear hinge of vol.3 and front hinge of supplement are partially cracked halfway, and later glued. Previous owners bookplates to endpapers “W.J. Turrell” & others in subsequent volumes, “Robert Stuart” (vols 2,3,&4) and “M.J. Elison” to v.4. Engraved title pages are quite heavily foxed, some minor darkening and some mild spots to main title pages. Some minor handling marks and one or two occasional minor foxing spots to pages else pages all very clean and tight thoughout. Some minor pencil marks to illustrations lists from previous collations. Engraved plates with some moderate foxing (mild to heavy), mostly around edges. Else a very good clean and tight set. 468, 436 & 367pp + 507pp Supplement. 4 engraved title pages, and a frontis portrait to supplement. Profusely illustrated with 76 B&W copper-engravings (22,19,30 & 5.) All volumes have indices at rear. This English sporting classic was published over a period of twelve years and covers all the traditional country sports including much on hunting and shooting, and fishing.
