About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. A.E.W. Mason was famous at the beginning of the 20th century for his brilliant short stories and novels. These were constantly put into film even during his lifetime, with two of his most well-known novels ? Fire Over England and The Four Feathers - becoming the main inspiration for some of the best classics of British cinema.

Although not his best known work of literature, Running Water is still distinguished as an exceptional mystery novel that has withstood the test of time, and is still seen as a captivating story of romance and adventure that very few readers could keep themselves from engaging in. The book is also one of the most famous and well-written mountaineering novels written in that time period, the entire plot taking place in the Alpine climbing community, around the end of the 19th century.

Mason sets up a thrilling plot of suspense, adventure and romance that manages to capture reader's attention from the very start. He introduces us to young Sylvia Thesiger, a woman climber who has always been attracted to the Alps. She soon decides to leave her overbearing mother in favor of traveling to meet and live with a father she had never known. Together with a fellow female climber, she manages to uncover a dangerous plot, leading to a chain of events that may help save the life of a young man.

Although not much of the story takes place in England, Mason does not disappoint through his intense and well-paced action and the beautiful descriptions of the Alps that he includes into his novel. From Chamonix to Mont Blanc, the novel explores many beautiful, naturally wild regions that act as the center stage for a thrilling tale of adventure that even younger readers can identify with.

Despite the seemingly dated writing style, Running Water features a familiar and somewhat enchanting atmosphere that anyone interested in A.E.W Mason's work will be able to fully engage in.
