About This Item

The Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1968. First Edition. Softcover. Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Lyonel Feininger. 32 pages, introduction by Eila Kokkinen, edited by William S. Lieberman, photographs taken by Andreas Feininger, list of illustrations. The text is illustrated by 23 coloured and black-and-white illustrations by Lyonel Feininger and black-and-white photographs by his son Andreas. Illustrated front cover, again by Lyonel Feininger, with white background and black writing on the front panel. Rubbing and scuffing of the book corners and there is little chipping to the top spine edge. The white background has become quite dull and yellow. Internally the work is very, very slightly browned. The book comprises 23 illustrations in black and white and colour of Feininger's watercolor, drawings and paintings of a church ruin in his vacation retreat at Deep, in Pomerania on the Baltic Coast. From the introduction ".. the fascinating metamorphosis of the ruin from factual reality to the precise and pure delineation of form characteristic of Feininger's work". Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956) taught at the Bauhaus school and explained that his job was not to teach but to "create an atmosphere". This is the First USA Edition. Size: Oblong Sextodecimo. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: Lyonel Feininger. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 500 grams. Category: Art & Design; Art -- History and Theory; Art & Design.
