About This Item
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1976. First Printing . Hard Back. Very Good/Very Good. 9 1/4" x 12 1/4. Christensen, R. Lans - Photoraphs. 161 Pages. No defects noted. Interior text and illustration pages are tight, bright, and white. No marks. Here are 12 new needlepoint (or cross stitch) designs in the Chinese style. Seven are for rugs, five for hangings. Many of the central motifs, borders, and repeat-pattern backgrounds can be used in smaller pieces. Each piece is illustrated in color and is fully graphed. Directions are given for preparing the canvas, working the design and finishing the piece for use on floor or wall. Color combinations are suggested but of course can be changed as desired. Ten stitch is most frequently used but 36 other stitches can be used for variety or accent. These are clearly indicated and diagrams are given for them. Estimates of wool quantities are also provided. Maggie Lane, an artist by profession, was born in China of missionary parents and lived there for a number of years. She is deeply appreciative of Chinese art and tradition and since becoming preeminent in the needlepoint world has made Oriental designs her specialty.
