London: T. And J. Egerton, 1788. John Phillip Kemble (1757-1823) was a popular actor and theatrical manager. Here is his adaptation of an uncommon work by Pedro Calderon de La Barca (1600-1680), the greatest of the baroque Spanish authors. This is a Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Rare. There is no publication date, but it is 1789, a year after Kemble took over the management of Drury Lane. Sewn softover; 53 pages. Clean text, very bright, clear, and supple. Rebound in stiff marbled paper boards. Covers have a splay; else Fine.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
