About This Item

New York: Dell, [1948]., 1948. First edition. First Dell Mapback movie tie-in edition, Dell No. 262. 12mo in color pictorial wrappers showing photograph of James Stewart against Art Deco city-scape on front wrapper and pictorial map of murder apartment on rear wrapper. 144 pp. Two young men, Brandon Shaw and Phillip Morgan, strangle to death their former classmate in their Manhattan penthouse apartment. They commit the crime as an intellectual exercise; they want to prove their superiority by committing the "perfect murder." After hiding the body in a large antique wooden chest, which acts as a buffet table, Brandon and Phillip host a dinner party at their apartment. As the evening continues, their old teacher begins to suspect foul play. Hitchcock's psychological thriller stars James Stewart, John Dall, and Farley Granger. Neat ownership label of Hiro Wakabayashi (1930-2017), Japanese-American and Korean War veteran on front pastedown, else a fine, bright copy.
