This edition translated from the original French by Peter Green. From the personal library of the noted English historian of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, Professor Peter Morris Green, now of Iowa City, Iowa, 99 years old, nearly blind, but still working, in this case on a new translation and with annotations, of Herodotus, his favorite historian. Big, tall, quarto format hardcover cover, bound in original publisher's red linen cloth over boards, gilt lettering over black label at spine. Fine, sharply gilt-stamped publisher logo (two dolphins swimming) to front cover. Clean but for some former owner ink-stamps, including along bottom edge, first free endpaper, inside front flap, unobtrusive, else tightly bound, unmarked. Full-color frontis, full-page, and many, many score black-and-white and some full-color illustrations. 451 illustrations all in, 91 in full-color, 13 architectural plans.
