This is the story of an Irish Brigade that originally fought for the Americans during the Mexican War in 1848. Due to the overt racism towards the Irish soldiers John Riley and members of the St. Patrick's Battalion deserted the American cause and joined the Mexican forces. The Irish unit had inflected heavy losses to the Americans. After the Mexicans were defeated the Irish defectors were hanged.
