About This Item
Alfred A. Knopf, 1986. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. An association copy, not signed but from the library of Joan Didion, renown author of such works as The Year of Magical Thinking, Play It as It Lays, The White Album, and Slouching Toward Bethlehem. A bookplate affirming this provenance is on the front free endpaper. A very good plus book, first printing, with light fading to edges of cloth boards and one light 1.5-inch scratch to back board that matches a scratch on the jacket. A very good jacket with inconspicuous ghosting to front panel along with that scratch. // Wood (+) River (=) Books specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, and environmental literature, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We also have a distinct interest in contemporary essay and invite you to explore our other Joan Didion offerings.

About Rural Hours
Rural Hours (formerly Wood + River = Books, est. 2019) specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, environmental literature, and contemporary essay, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We draw our name from the popular-but-then-forgotten book by Susan Fenimore Cooper (published in 1850), generally considered the first work of environmental creative nonfiction by a woman in the U.S. We are interested in challenging and expanding the canon of environmental literature and finding books that tell remarkable stories and illuminate the tradition of writing about place and natural history.
