New York: Gnome Press, [1953]. 8vo. 251, [1] pp. Quarter brown cloth over beige-coloured boards, silver lettering on spine (slight shelfwear), w/ d.j. cover art of robots on chess board by Ric Binkley (minor edgewear, creasing, slight chipping head of spine, couple very minor closed tears), still NF/VG copy. First hardcover edition of one of John D. MacDonald’s early science fiction stories on computing and artificial intelligence, “Mechanical Answer,” first published in Astounding Science Fiction (1948). This anthology also includes stories by Lester del Rey, Joseph E. Kelleam, A.E. van Vogt, John Browning, Lewis Padgett, and others.
