About This Item

Excellent some edge stress

When it opened its doors in 1959, the Robert Meyer Hotel was a monument amid the bustling downtown of Jacksonville.

It was, at the time, Florida's largest commercial hotel. It also was the first built mainly for business travelers in the Southeast in 30 years, former employees recall.

The 563 guest rooms didn't even begin until the fifth floor, the same floor where visitors later could take a dip in the outdoor pool before retiring to their rooms. A marble lobby, several restaurants and a jewelry store were among the features.
