Edgar Cayce (March 18, 1877 - January 3, 1945) was an American self-professed clairvoyant who answered questions on subjects as varied as healing, reincarnation, wars, Atlantis, and future events while allegedly asleep. A biographer gave him the nickname, The Sleeping Prophet. A nonprofit organization, the Association for Research and Enlightenment, was founded to facilitate the study of Cayce's work. Some consider him the true founder and a principal source of the most characteristic beliefs of the New Age movement. Cayce is also notable for his contributions to the notions of diet and health, particularly the issues of food combining, acid/alkaline diet, and the therapeutic use of food.

Dorothy Wallace was a friend/follower of Edgar Cayce and present at: This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Milton W. Harrison, 56 Highland Circle, Bronxville, N.Y., this 17th day of April, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1789], Associate Member of dthe Ass'n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Va. Present: Edgar Cayce; Hugh Lynn Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. [1789] and family, Frances Paelian and mother; Nathan Patek, Margaret Taylor and Fenton
Taylor, Jr., Dorothy Wallace and mother, and others. Minor shelf/edge wear, former owner's signature at front pastedown, author's presentation copy so inscribed, minor toning at rear related to laid in ephemera. Bound in blue cloth over boards, gilt titling, sewn binding. Signed and inscribed by Edgar Cayce on the half-title page. "This is book number 203 Edgar Cayce". Newspaper clippings laid in rear endpapers.
