About This Item
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1964. First Edition. Illustrated with drawings by Warren Chappell. From the screenwriter David Lloyd (1934–2009) wrote television comedies for series such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, Taxi, Cheers, Frasier and Wings. Lloyd wrote "Chuckles Bites the Dust", an October 1975 episode of the Mary Tyler Moore Show, for which he won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series and is regarded today as one of most famous television episodes of all time. In 2009, this episode was ranked No. 1 on TV Guide's "100 Greatest Episodes Of All Time". Scarce first edition of this imaginative version of the "The Ring", the series of four famous operas by Richard Wagner, with fantastic drawings by Warren Chappell, this is a compelling adaptation by John Updike (1932–2009), the famed American novelist, poet, short-story writer, art critic, literary critic and one of only four writers to win the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction more than once. Bound in the publisher's red cloth covered boards, with black titles. Contents clean and bright. Boards square and tight. Fine in a bright jacket with a very faint hint of wear.
