Colonel William Howard, Marine Artillery written title margin (New York Marine Artillery). Riling 729 (1860 edition). <br> General Cadmus Wilcox was a veteran of the Mexican American and American Civil War (CSA). Wilcox attended West Point (class 1846) with McClellan and Jackson. Later after his service in the Mexican American War, he returned to West Point as an instructor and wrote this book, the standard textbook on riffles and rifle firing. During the Civil War he served as a brigadier general under Longstreet's First Corps in the Army of Northern Virginia. Wilcox saw service at the Peninsula Campaign, Battles of Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Gaines Mill, Seven Days, the Maryland Campaign, Chancellorsville, Salem Church, Gettysburg, the Overland Campaign, and the siege of Petersburg.
