London:Longman, Brown, Green and Longmans, 1854. First Edition. hard cover. Very Good/No jacket. London:Longman, Browne, Green and Longmans. 1854. 1st edition. xii+409pp. Illustrated, with 6 full color plates with tissue guards. Hardcover. Bound in 3/4 leather with brown buckram boards and marbled end-pages. The leather along spine edges (gutters), spine ends and edge points worn and scuffed (to boards in places), but with boards still firmly attached. Top page edges darkened with fore-edges stained. Internally, some penciled and ink notes to verso of 1st free end-page, with a previous owners name/date inked to 2nd free end-page. Otherwise, aside from an occasional smudge or age spot, a very good, clean copy. All plates in very good condition, all with tissue guards still in place. The bound in ribbon is still attached with discoloration to pages 402/403 where it has resided. The binding is tight with hinges intact.
