Stiff black wrappers, with text only written on the rear wrapper. As new.

- First edition. Catalogue published on the occasion of an exhibition that took place in galleria blue, February-March 1971. Text in Italian and English.

(Since the end of the 1960s, reflection on language has continued on multiple fronts.
In February 1971 at the Galleria Blu in Milan he exhibited a series of felts and Bakelites which inaugurated a line of work that would become extremely prolific.
After the long process, the useful futility of the gesture and of the easy thing to break lines for a moment is inevitable: but verification always looms, and soon; the pause, the idea, the taste, become the temporary support of a new discourse.
The title of the exhibition is suggestive:
"Redundancy: landscapes and portraits
Analysis: axioms..."
The Felts are panels engraved by fire or painted with color which depict portraits and landscapes through the use of literary redundancy while the Axioms are Bakelite plates engraved and treated with water or nitro colors in which diagrams and sentences sometimes express axiomatic propositions, more often tautologies, contradictions, paradoxes contrasting with the Feltri for mental coldness and conceptual rigor. The exception is Profezia (1970) which is a hypothetical axiom, the only one of its kind, in which the material used and the use of color soften its aesthetic impact.
The Axioms remain the counter-proof of what was stated in other previous works of mine based on the relativity of written language...The Axioms essentially represent an exasperated seriousness even if sometimes the fiction fails due to mental processing.
In this sense they constitute a sort of echo of Agnetti's conceptual work and for this reason constitute the mental punctuation throughout his work.)

From the next to the bottom line of the title page, "Engraved by Thomas Piroli, From the Drawings in Pofsefssion [sic] of Thomas Hope, Esq. 1793" The last line lists the publisher/ printer and the date of printing as May 1, 1807. Pages are not numbered. We counted approximately 115 pages containing individual engravings. There is noticeable foxing on the first three pages and last four pages (including first and last fly leaf pages).. Remaining pages are clear or with light faxing. However the images on all these pages seem predominately clear of foxing. Pages are clear, without tears or marks. Plates are in very good condition over all. Both covers have been separated from the binding/ also first three pages and last four, each section bound together, have separated from the binding (separated as two separated sections). Cover over the spine has largely worn away, although binding is tight (excepting the two sections that are loose). Pencil… Read More

We speak of fin-de siecle artists almost as if we know them, and a large body of scholarly work exists covering nearly every conceivable aspect of the late nineteenth-century philosophy, sociology, and art. Given that, it is a rare and remarkable opportunity when one finds something new and unknown about the late 1800's, a privilege we at the Smithsonian Institute Traveling Exhibition Service are pleased to share with everyone who reads this book and visits the exhibition Art Nouveau Bing...." - Foreword from Art Nouveau Bing: Paris Style 1900

New Haven and New York: Yale University Press and the Jewish Museum, 2004. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover in Dust Jacket. Fine/Fine. Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) is one of the greatest - and most misunderstood - artists of the twentieth century. His incisive portraits, erotically charged nudes, beautiful drawings, and primitivistic sculpture have been admired for decades. Modigliani's work, however, has typically been examined in the limited context of his so-called bohemian, anti-intellectual lifestyle. This groundbreaking book revises this approach toward Modigliani's art, presenting a convincing revisionist examination of the unique historical, social, religious, and cultural significance of his oeuvre.  No Flaws or Blemishes but minimal shelf handling; Still Gift Quality. Dust Jacket with price is in a new clear protective Mylar sleeve..
