About This Item

London: W. Thacker, 1891. Third edition (1st pub. 1881). Hardcover, stamped in black and gilt. Fair (becoming shaken). 285p+ 40p of publisher's ads, ca. 80 text ills. + many line plates by J.H. Oswald Brown, John Sturgess, and Stanley Berkeley. No jacket, probably as issued. The final edition of this comprehensive Victorian guide, somewhat revised. Omits the sidesaddle chapter because Hayes and his wife, Alice, were preparing their separate book on the subject. Adds new material on riding "vicious" horses, military riding, making polo ponies, and an index, and reworks other parts. As described, but still a good reference copy. (Wells 3382).
