About This Item
London: Sidgwick & Jackson, 1928. Robert Erskine Childers was English but became an advocate of Irish Nationalism. He smuggled guns, fought in the Civil War, and was executed by the Irish Free State. Prior to that he had served in the British army during the Second Boer War, receiving a Distinguished Service Medal. First published in 1903, this title is often alled "the first modern espionage novel." It is prophetic, recounting a German invasion a decade prior to World War One, and supposedly influenced Winston Churchill. This is a Very Good copy of the Thirteenth Impression [stated] from June 1928. Tan cloth binding with titling in black on the spine. Clean text; xii, 335 pages, with a two-page advert in the rear. Very little wear and the corners remain sharp. Spotting to the page-ends. A very respectable copy. In an archival plastic protector.. Later Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
