Tightly bound with faint thumb-marking throughout. Previous owner's inscription to front endpaper. Boards have light edgewear with corner crushing and mild marking to boards. Notable sunning to spine, which has mild crushing to ends. Mild water stains and droplets to surfaces.

Cassell & Company, 1937. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1937. Second Edition. 311 pages. No dust jacket. Green cloth with gilt lettering. Light foxing and tanning to pages. Much more prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Moderate cracking to gutters causing some looseness to binding but pages remain attached. Pen inscription to front free endpaper. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has much heavier tanning with soft crushing and splitting to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Binding a bit cocked, but not offensively so. Several small bumps to extremities of volume, with a number of small worn through areas to extremities of covers and some general light wear and mild soiling to exterior, too. Some medium foxing here and there to interior. Another previous owner's bookplate to front paste-down, his name in pencil to first page, and unobtrusive pencil marks to interior on many pages. Small stain to lower part of fore-edges. Dust-jacket present, but worn, admitting to library treatments, tears and chips, and small stains. Overall, a good working copy
