A late and highly inaccurate reprint of Vossius' Rhetorices (first 1640), containing his definition of the nature of rhetoric based on Aristotle, as 'that which the Greeks call logos, ethos, and pathos', with an emphasis on the art of persuasion as the core principle of rhetorical education. This 1672 Oxford edition was a careless production and shows two errors in the title page alone, 'Holandiæ' and 'excussi'.
A careful contemporary reader, apparently the Robert Wynne whose name is on the title-page, has corrected textual errors throughout, and supplied scholarly notes as well as some lively marginal translations: dianœticæ 'intellectuall', habiti indignè
'being ill us'd', gynæcium 'seraglio', eadem oberremus chorda 'harp upon the same string', si cujus messis adhuc in herba fuerit 'the corn in ye blade; that is, one who gives very hopefull signs of future improvements.
