SIGNED by John Edgar Wideman on the title page. An Advance Review Copy with the publisher's materials laid in. This is the story of Reuben, a lawyer, who represents people in a Black ghetto of Pittsburgh in their dealings with the White authorities downtown.
The novel is set in Homewood, the Black neighborhood of Pittsburgh where the author grew up. "Wideman's anger and sadness evoke a series of powerful images that will burn long in the mind and conscience." (Booklist)
