First published in 1932. Written by Herman Cyril McNeile, a British soldier and author who often drew on his personal experiences in the trenches during the First World War. McNeile is most remembered for his Bulldog Drummond series, writing this collection under the pseudonym Sapper. This work features Hugh 'Bulldog' Drummond, a veteran from the First World War who tires of his mundane life and becomes an adventure-seeking detective. The character has since appeared in novels, short stories, in plays, films, on television and in graphic novels. In this particular adventure Bulldog Drummond is determined to solve the mystery surrounding a scared young man who is hiding out at Merridale Hall. Bound in the publisher's original red cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light shelf wear and the odd mark to cloth. Front hinge is a little strained, but holding firm. Dust wrapper is very smart, with light edge wear and a tear to the head of the front board. Tape reinforcing the reverse of the wrap, with the occasional light mark. Internally, firmly bound with bright, clean pages. Near Fine
