About This Item

London: J. M. Dent and Sons Ltd. 1920. First UK trade edition, first printing. First UK trade edition, first printing. Publisher's original green cloth, stamped in blind to the upper board, titles in gilt to the spine, in dustwrapper. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth clean and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper, that is toned to the spine and panel edges and otherwise without loss or tears. Whilst the last of the three novels in the 'Lingard Trilogy' to be published, after Almayer's Folly (1895) and An Outcast of the Islands (1896), the events related in The Rescue (based on Conrad's experience as mate on the steamer Vidar) precede the earlier publications.
