Glendale: The Arthur H. Clark Co., 1961 First edition. 332pp. Frontis portraits, and 15 plates, folding map. Dark green cloth. A fine copy. Letters written by Thomas G. Wildman, his wife Mollie, and brother Augustus. They had come overland from Danbury, Connecticut. One of the most readable of the "Far West and the Rockies" series. Includes letters written by Wildman on the way to Denver and after arriving, telling of his attempt at mining, his employment in Denver, etc.; much on the Pike's Peak gold rush, and numerous letters giving a vivid picture of life in Denver, 1859-1865. The Argonaut Book Shop was founded in 1941 in the middle of the financial district of San Francisco. The Argonaut was a founding member of the Antiquarian Booksellers\' Association of America and has been a member in good standing ever since. The Shop is now located just three blocks from Union Square in downtown San Francisco and is open six days a week. Parking facilities include ample street space and a parking garage close by.
