About This Item

Dublin: Luke White. Full leather. pp. 1235-1923 + a lengthy unpaginated Table of the Principal Matters. Signed by previous owners Stephen Eno (May, 1800) and Jonathan Holdeen (June 20, 1936), occasional foxing and a few notations in ink, Good Plus. Stephen Eno practiced law in Pine Plains, N.Y. and was a prominent lawyer in Duchess County. Jonathan Holdeen (1881-1967), who resided in Pine Plains and had an office in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was the eccentric, penny-pinching, millionaire lawyer who set up 2.8 million dollars in trusts to make Pennsylvania a tax-free state (an idea inspired by Benjamin Franklin). An extraordinary legal clash followed in which the Unitarian Universalists were involved. Google Holdeen, and read about this fascinating scheme and legal battle. . Good. Full Leather.
