Philadelphia, PA: McCarty & Davis, 1827. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original 1827 publication which appears to have been rebound with cloth in the late 19th to early 20th century. Exterior shows soiling and spotting and leather labels on spine are fragile, brittle and cracked with the both labels having large sections missing. Internal binding is good for the majority of the text pages though front and rear boards show hinge cracks. Title page shows the signature of one of the original owners which appears to read John H. Shutt. There is another signature but it is crossed out. No other handwriting found. Book is still very well bound in the lower grade of just good+ is because of the toning/spotting of the pages and condition of the exterior leather labels. Front pastedown contains the law publisher business label of Geo. T. Bisel Company along with the stamped name of the Pennsylvania attorney who likely had the book rebound. Note: this is the original publication from the 1800s and not a modern reprint. This is volume 12 only as each volume was published independent of each other and over a range of multiple years.

Philadelphia: Abraham Small, 1821. Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Bound in full tan calf gilt spine titles on red and black labels. 588 pages with index. The leather is rubbed through at the corners, there are surface scuffs which have darkened with age, the head of the spine is chipped with a glue repair, the front joint is cracked and the rear just starting. Description:
Philadelphia: Philip H. Nicklin; M'Carty & Davis, and others, 1829. Hardcover. Good. 13 of 17 volumes, full calf, good to very good, light general scuffing, darkening and wear, but all well bound and contents very good and clean. Most of the volumes have a thin black leather band lettered in gilt at bottoms of spines with "D. A. Reed" -- the volumes mainly belonged to David Aiken Reed (1880-1953), Pittsburgh attorney and very conservative Senator from Pennsylvania, co-author of the notoriously restrictive Johnson-Reed Immigration Act of 1924 aimed at severely curtailing immigration from southern and eastern Europe and at banning all Asians from immigrating to America.
