About This Item
San Francisco: California Weekly, 1910. 54p, wraps, mild foxing on front end paper and on several pages, owner's label pasted on verso of front wrap, very good condition. The Oliver Grand Jury's findings resulted in the 1906-1910 bribery prosecution of San Francisco mayor and union musician Eugene Schmitz of the Union Labor Party (ULP), ULP kingpin Abe Ruef, and a number of other city officials and corporate heads. The tone of the report is very self-congratulatory despite the fact that only Ruef's conviction was upheld. He served over four years in San Quentin prison. San Francisco elected its last ULP mayor in 1909. Schmitz was elected to the SF Board of Supervisors in 1921.
